TENCEL™ Lyocell

We use two different TENCEL™ Lyocell fabric types in our products.
Clothes that require stretching (such as the t-shirt Utu, the skirt Saara and the dress Uulu) are made of knitted jersey type fabric. The fabric contains 93% TENCEL™ Lyocell and 7% elastane. The material is woven in Estonia and the original material comes from Indonesia. The fabric has a Lenzing certificate. Due to the elastane in the fabric, the fabric is not suitable for composting, but in order to maintain stable quality and durability, it is not possible to give up elastane in these products.

Other products are made (for example, the scrunchie Kunsu and the dress Wilhelmine) from 100% TENCEL™ Lyocell material. The material has the OEKO-TEX STANDARD 100 certificate.

We smoothly switch from the widely used polyester thread to the EcoRegen 100% TENCEL™ Lyocell thread, which meets the requirements of OEKO-TEX STANDARD 100, FSC and Canopy.

Care instructions: Machine wash on gentle cycle up to 30 degrees inside out. Avoid excessive twisting and stretching when wet. Use a detergent that does not contain bleach or fabric softeners. To avoid fading, do not dry in the sun. Tumble drying is prohibited due to ~12-18% fabric shrinkage, thread and fabric wear. Iron inside out at a low temperature. With responsible maintenance, the products have a long life.

Lenzing TENCEL™ Lyocell

Sustainability

  • TENCEL™ Lyocell and Modal fibers are made with at least 50% less carbon emissions and water consumption.*
  • TENCEL™ Lyocell and Modal fibers are certified with the EU Ecolabel for environmental excellence.**
  • Lenzing was the first cellulosic fiber producer to set concrete scientifically verified Science Based Targets aiming for a reduction of greenhouse gas emissions.
  • TENCEL™ Lyocell and Modal fibers are certified as biodegradable and compostable.***
  • TENCEL™ Lyocell and Modal fibers are derived from the natural raw material wood and from controlled or certified wood sources.
  • * TENCEL™ Lyocell fibers are made from a resource-saving, closed loop production process. Wood pulp is transformed into cellulosic fibers, while more than 99.8% of the solvent is recovered and fed back into the loop, resulting in close-to-zero wastage.

Performance

  • TENCEL™ Lyocell and Modal fibers support a natural dry feeling through moisture control.
  • TENCEL™ Lyocell and Modal fibers are naturally soft and smooth to the touch.
  • TENCEL™ Lyocell fibers are unfavorable to odor-causing bacteria.

*** LENZING™ Lyocell and Modal standard fibers are certified by TUV Austria as biodegradable in soil, freshwater and marine environments, and compostable under home and industrial conditions

Packaging

The products have labels made of 100% recycled paper (the paper has the Blue Angel, FSC® Recycled and EU Ecolabel markings). The label is attached with cotton ribbon and a reusable safety pin. For shipping, we pack the products in Releaf bags made from fallen leaves. We stamp our logo on the bags as needed.

Waste materials

At the moment, thanks to the very small production and the created products, we can use most of the fabric scraps. Larger fabric scraps become new smaller-format products (for example, the Muhkva crown), and very tiny pieces become stuffed animals. The pieces of thread left behind will become jewelry in the future. Therefore, today we do not create waste fabric waste with our production. If you have ideas for better use of small pieces of fabric, get in touch and we will discuss the possibilities.
